In Buddhism, Samadhi is essentially cognitive ecstasy —

it’s the “highest state of mental concentration that a person can achieve while still bound to the body and which unites one with the highest reality.”

You know you are in a state of samadhi when you are no longer conscious that you’re thinking.

It took me a while to get get glimpses of Samadhi in my daily routine, but two things that really helped me aside from meditation were journaling and physical activity/hiking. I chose to share these two activities because everyone is busy and chances are at least one of these activities will fit into most routines or are already incorporated in a basic way.

Journaling has qualities of self reflection, which are great for self inquiry during meditative practices. Of course, uni-tasking while journaling is most important — you won’t get the full benefits if you try doing multiple things at once, or even check your phone. So find a quiet place and time everyday to journal, by hand. Yup, by hand — phones are great for organization, but writing thoughts down the old fashioned way builds retention and dedication. Sometimes we type faster than our brain thinks and processes.

Concentrated forms physical activity can help improve your ability to experience Samadhi as well as improve overall meditation by building mental, emotional, and physical conditioning and healthy habits for meditation practice.

Both these activities ultimately help with meditation, which ultimately help you get closer to Awakening.

I hope you enjoyed this post regarding spiritual wellness and self improvement tips!
